During winter, the dropping temperatures and clod winds rob your skin of moisture and leave your hair dry and brittle, and also make your skin dry and dull. To fight the effects of winter, you need to step up on your skin and hair care.
How To Protect Your Skin From Harsh Winter
Your skin becomes dry and coarse this time of the year. If you're 30+, the winters cold predisposes your skin to fine lines. There may be dry, scaly patches which create an uneven skin tone, giving you a patchy look. The harsh winter weather dehydrates your skin and makes it dull and lusterless. And if you thought you need not protect your skin from sun during winter, think again. Don't forget to apply sunscreen before stepping out of the house, as sun exposure results in blemishes and increases pigmentation, during winter than summer. Even your hair needs extra attention during winter, as it becomes dry and prone to split ends.
Moisturize. Use a mild cleanser which is detergent free, and keep it in mind you must try and avoid as much as possible all soaps and things that are detergent free. Something cream based fro dry to normal skin is advisable. Tone and moisturize your skin at least two times a day. A moisturizing night cream is recommended for mature skin, and even younger women and those prone to pimples can go for a light night cream to keep the skin hydrated. During the day, remember to use a sunscreen of about 30 to 45 SPF.
For the sensitive skin around the eyes, use an eye cream or a vitamin E one percent cream. If you prefer a natural moisturizer, you could use aloe vera extract around the eyes.
Keep your hair well conditioned to prevent damage. Use a mild shampoo and conditioner twice a week; you can make your own conditioner at home also. Just take half a cup of curd and mix with two teaspoons of honey, rub this into your scalp after shampooing and leave on for five minutes. Rinse and shampoo again. Alternatively, use a cup of milk, which is an excellent natural conditioner. Include foods rich in vitamin E, B and minerals in your diet for healthy hair. Walnuts, raisins and almonds can do wonders for your tresses. Nourish the hair from the roots with a weekly massage using olive or mustard oil.
Follow these simple tips and keep your skin and hair happy through the winter.
